The experience
Camini is much more than a picturesque village: it is a place that has experienced an extraordinary cultural renaissance, becoming a meeting point of traditions from every corner of the world. At the heart of this renaissance is the “Jungi Mundu” Operations Center, a safe and welcoming haven that has actively helped shape a supportive community. Here, the stories of emigration and integration are intertwined in a fascinating mosaic, where the roots of past emigrants are combined with those of new inhabitants from Syria, Nigeria, Mali, Ghana, Pakistan, Morocco, Libya, Tunisia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
Among the alleys that are tinged with enveloping scents, a symphony of spices from every corner of the world that intertwine harmoniously with the local fragrances, you can spend a day surrounded by people ready to guide you to discover the village and share with you the stories that make this place so special and to make you feel part of a unique community.
The magic of clay: pottery workshop
Chimneys, known in Greek as Kaminion, means “furnace.” This small village, originally famous for its numerous kilns for firing clay bricks, has transformed this organic and natural material into a real treasure. In the pottery workshop, immerse yourself in local history and discover ancient processing techniques: the potter’s wheel turns in the expert hands, giving life to creations that tell the thousand-year history of this place. And you can try it too: shaping clay and working on the potter’s wheel allows you to experience the charm of ancient cooking techniques, creating a unique piece that reflects the local artisan tradition.
Ama-là: weaving traditions
The Ama-là workshop takes its name from Tibetan, where AMA means “woman and mother,” and LA expresses respect and affection. Here, Calabrian textile traditions blend with ancient knowledge from different parts of the world. Broom spinning is combined with innovative techniques such as eco-printing, transforming the fabric into a work of art that embraces sustainable and ethical fashion. Take time to experiment and discover an ancient method of steamed textile printing and dyeing, choose local herbs, barks, leaves and flowers and let your imagination run wild!
Creativity and regeneration: art workshop and tailoring workshop
Fireplaces transform what seems useless into works of art. In the art workshop, unique pieces are created from recycled materials that celebrate art and the natural environment. Jungi Mundu tailoring, on the other hand, with its use of recycled fabrics and African fabrics, creates handcrafted products that blend functionality, practicality and research.
In both workshops, the tutors offer visitors the opportunity to try their hand at creating one-of-a-kind personalized pieces.
Education and Play: Childhood Workshop “The Colors of the World”
The kindergarten workshop was born from the need to promote the integration of pre-school children. Here, hospitality, respect for diversity and tolerance are expressed through playful, manual and creative activities. Children discover the world in an environment that promotes socio-educational growth.
Farm and community garden: at the origin of local products
Conclude your walk by exploring the farm and social garden, where you can get an up-close understanding of the origin of the products used in the local restaurant. A journey that connects the table to the land and agricultural traditions of Camini.
